FAQ

INGREDIENTS & SOURCING

    • What makes Groomer & George different from other grooming products on the market? We like to say we’re a little more luxurious! G&G is based with purified glacier rain water using a crystal vortex process. This process returns water to its most pristine, energetically charged state which boosts its natural solvent properties. The process does not remove life enhancing minerals, and it accelerates its ability to hydrate animals tissues. This technique also helps the water to act as a natural preservative to the shampoo.
    • Is Groomer & George certified organic? Yes. All ingredients are certified organic and contain vitamins. No ingredient will harm our pets or our waters.
    • Does Groomer & George contain any toxic or harmful ingredients? G&G does not contain sulfates, propylene glycol, DEA/MEA, or parabens. Additionally, this means we do not contain: glycols, EDTA, silicon, mineral oil, GMO’s, urea, perfume/fragrances, animal byproducts or testing (ever), nor do we contain over 4000 other harmful “industry” synthetics or petro-chemicals. For a full list of ingredients you will never find in our products click here.
    • Is Groomer & George cruelty-free and vegan? Yes.
    • Does Groomer & George contain fragrance? No. G&G has a strict policy of no synthetic chemical ingredients. We have a much better solution to fragrance our product, and we use authentic aromas done in the ancient Egyptian way made only with certified organic oils.
    • Are Groomer & George ingredients ethically sourced? Yes. Also where possible we use social justice ingredients.
    • What are social justice ingredients? Any ingredient that we source directly from third-world, low income communities where the money goes directly to the producers and their community. This means no brokers or middlemen. For example, our Pawsh Paw Balm, made with wild-crafted shea butter from Ghana (being released this fall), is bought directly from a women’s cooperative, and is all hand-processed with dedication and love.
    • Is your packaging eco-friendly? Yes, including our labels created using forest-free paper made from sugarcane, hemp fiber and crushed rock, and use water-based vegetable inks.
    • How long will my product last for (when do products expire)? As tried and tested, all product is good for 24 months after opening if stored at room temperature. Beyond 24 months the product wouldn’t turn into a science experiment, it just might not work as well.
    • Do Groomer & George products contain preservatives? No.

GROOMING & USAGE

  • How often should I bathe my dog? Unless your dog gets really stinky they really only should be bathed once a month.
  • How much product do I need to use per wash? A little goes a long way! You do not need to dilute Groomer & George products, although you can dilute our washes (shampoos) 1 part shampoo to 17 parts water.
  • Is Groomer & George safe for puppies? Yes, all of our products are safe for puppies over 8 weeks. You may want to dilute the product for easy rinsing, as puppies can be difficult to bath. Our ‘Puppy Love Smell Good’ wash (shampoo) is great for puppies, as its natural lavender helps neutralize the poopy (yes poopy!) smell. “Cause we know all puppies somehow get covered in their poop.”
  • What is a conditioning rinse for? Is an excellent detangling and shine agent for dogs with thicker coats or for dogs. It is also a good choice for dogs with finer or cotton-y type hair to prevent knots and matting. Chamomile provides antioxidants to the skin while other ingredients such as our macadamia oil detangles the fur, which is why these ingredients are our top choices for a rinse.
  • My dog has itchy skin. Which product do I use? Our ‘Love Me Bath Me’ wash (orange and oatmeal) or ‘I'm Sensitive’ wash (100% unscented shampoo) contain organic floral water or lavender. Organic floral water and lavender is an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. Colloidal oatmeal is a good solution for eczema, inflamed skin or otherwise irritated skin.
  • My dog has fleas. Can Groomer & George help? Yes! Our ‘Love Me Bathe Me' wash (orange and oatmeal shampoo), or our ‘No Fleas Please’ rinse (lavender conditioner) are both great in this case. The lavender in ‘No Fleas Please’ will also soothe your pet. The oatmeal in ‘Love Me Bathe Me’ will help relieve itchiness and repel fleas and insects.
  • My dog has an oily coat, what are the best products for my dog? Our ‘Puppy Love Smell Good’ wash (shampoo) is our recco', although any of the washes are truly a match. In the case of an oily coat, we don't recommend a cream rinse.
  • Why can’t I use my own shampoo on my dog? The formulation of most hair products made for humans contain ingredients that are too harsh and may be an irritant for dog's sensitive skin. Our washes (shampoos) are milder than most human shampoos and are gentler on your animals skin, hence why we call it apothecary :)
  • Can I use Groomer and George on myself? Yes, actually you can! Our founder came across the idea of Groomer & George the day she accidentally washed herself with dog shampoo in her friend’s shower!
  • Are Groomer and George safe to use on other pets such as a cat or ferret? We only recommend our ‘I’m Sensitive’ wash (unscented shampoo). Our other washes (shampoos) contain essential oils, which can be toxic to cats and other small animals.

OTHER VALID QUESTIONS

  • Where can I buy Groomer & George? At our flagship online! Check our stocklist for retailers available for you to shop locally or online, also. For wholesale, click this link and we'll get you hooked up.
  • Where do you ship? Within North America (Canada and the United States). For Wholesale orders we do supply the UK, Europe and Australia.
  • Why does Groomer & George cost $23? With G&G you don't need a lot of our product to create a lather because we do not use saponified organic oils (aka coconut oil) as our base product. Punchline: one bottle of Groomer & George wash or rinse will last you longer (depending on usage) than a wash or conditioner that isn't as highly concentrated, or does use these oils as a base. We don't use saponification b/c it creates an oil based product. Using an oil based product, this can weigh your pets hair down and in general does not cleanse as well. You also end up using significantly more product when bathing your pet as well.
